CALL FOR POSTER PRESENTATIONS: The Bergen International Conference on Hansen’s Disease: 150 Years Since the Discovery of the Leprosy Bacillus

The Sasakawa Leprosy (Hansen’s Disease) Initiative and the University of Bergen in Norway are organizing The Bergen International Conference on Hansen’s Disease:150 Years Since the Discovery of the Leprosy Bacillus on June 21-22, 2023.

The conference, which is part of the Don’t Forget Leprosy/Don’t Forget Hansen’s Disease campaign, will bring together leprosy stakeholders from around the world for two days of discussions in the city where Dr. Gerhard Armauer Hansen first observed Mycobacterium leprae, the causative agent of leprosy, in 1873.

The conference will include a poster session providing organizations of persons affected by Hansen’s disease with an opportunity to share best practices.

Sasakawa Leprosy Initiative will cover the travel cost for the presenters who pass the screening process for abstracts.

We invite abstracts based on the following criteria:

Application Guidelines

Eligible Applicants: Organizations of persons affected by Hansen’s disease/leprosy (Only one entry per organization)

Application Period: March 16 (Thursday) – April 2 (Sunday), 2023 (Deadline 24:00 Japan Standard Time) (closed)

Registration and Submission Process

  1. Registration and Abstract Submission Deadline: Sunday, April 2, 2023 (24:00 Japan Standard Time)(closed)
  2. Judging – An expert committee including University of Bergen faculty members will review submissions
  3. Notification of Results: End of April 2023
